SOLAR
DRYERS WITH APPLICATIONS FOR |
||||||
| A major section of teh Food processing industry deals with drying of agricultural products for better preservation, long term storage and exports. In India, a large chunk of the drying is still done by drying the product out in the sun. This not only takes a lot of time (usually in days) but is also very unhygenic because of possible contamination. A more effective way is the use of Solar Dryers, they increase teh moisture removal rate, thus speeding up the drying process while reducing chances of contamination. The use of Solar Dryers thus reduces your drying time and thereby allows you to increase your production level. For high production capacities, however, its best to opt for gas fired dryers, as solar dryers require a lot of space. These Gas fired dryers reduce the drying time dramatically and thus allows high production rates. These are not standard dryers and need to be custom built according to your requirement, which is usually based on the moisture content in the product to be dried, moisture removal rate required, total production per day etc. Fortunately NRG offers both solutions for people in the Food Processing Industry - Design, Manufacture and Installation of Solar Dryers as well as Gas Based dryers. NRG has successfully offered custom built drying solutions for a wide variety of products like drying of tomatoes, onions, chillis etc and even other articles like handmade paper etc |

NRG has been working with Dr. Thorat at UICT (Insititute of Chemical Technology, Matunga, Mumbai) to develop Solar dryers to meet Indian requireements. NRG has infact, supplied the solar dryer in which the research is being carried out at the UICT campus.The research group with Dr. Thorat, consisting of Dr. Sunil Vaze (lecturer, UICT), Mr. Ganesh Visawale & Mr. Tushaar (PhD students, UICT) has been conducting a series of detailed dehydration study on various food items. The results have been extremely superior as compared to open sundrying. Here are two research reports prepared by Dr. Thorats group on the effects of Solar drying. Report 1 : Drying of Bombay Duck (1.4Mb) Report 2 : Drying of Green grapes (2Mb) |
